At 42 years old, Dan Burkett - a drifter from Crystal River, Florida has built a lifelong connection with cars that ultimately led him to the professional drifting stage. From a young age he was drawn to engines, fabrication, and anything with four wheels. As the years went on, that fascination only grew stronger, eventually leading him to build a dedicated drift car and begin driving on track.
Behind the wheel, he competes in his purpose-built Toyota Supra. The iconic MKIV platform has long been a favourite among enthusiasts, and Burkett's version takes things to another level with a RAD Industries Weapon wide body kit and a set of Rays 57DR wheels that give the car an aggressive and unmistakable stance.
Power comes from a 3.4L stroker Toyota 2JZ setup producing around 1025 horsepower. Known for its strength and reliability, the 2JZ platform continues to be one of the most trusted engines in drifting, capable of producing serious power while remaining incredibly durable. For Burkett, the combination of iconic styling and dependable horsepower makes the Supra the perfect competition car.
Beyond the track, we love to look into the personal lives of these stars!
What is your favourite track or circuit to drive and why?
One track that stands out above the rest for Burkett is Road Atlanta. The circuit offers a unique mix of speed, technical driving, and elevation changes that make every battle exciting. Add in one of the best crowds in drifting each year and it becomes an unforgettable atmosphere for both drivers and fans.
What hobbies do you have outside of racing?
While cars remain his biggest passion, Burkett also enjoys the engineering side of the sport. Designing and developing new parts that improve performance or solve common problems has become a major interest of his over the years. When he is not working on cars, he also enjoys getting out on the water for rides in his airboat and spending time with his wife.
Any driving tips you would give to someone starting out in motorsport?
For newcomers looking to get into drifting, Burkett believes one thing matters more than anything else - seat time. Learning the fundamentals behind the wheel and gaining experience is far more valuable than chasing big horsepower numbers or expensive parts early on.
Dream street car?
When it comes to dream cars, two machines sit at the top of the list - the legendary Porsche Carrera GT and the incredible Lexus LFA. Both are widely considered engineering masterpieces and represent the kind of driver-focused machines that enthusiasts dream about owning.
